Thanks for the blogging ideas, Jennifer and Becca! I am excited to work on answers in the coming days. Some will take more time than others so for now, I'll start with the simple questions.
If one of our girls would have been a boy, the name we had planned was Sam. Samuel Morgan Sexton to be exact. We thought Sam Sexton sounded great and Morgan is the name of a street in downtown Raleigh. We were driving through there one night and happened to be talking about baby names when we passed that street and we liked the sound of it. My sister now has a son named Sam and I was blessed to be present at his birth. The name fits him perfectly. Her other son is Jack and it's another favorite boy name of mine. Both Sam and Jack are awesome kids and I love them both more than I can say!
One of my most favorite hymns is "His Eye is on the Sparrow." It is a beautiful and comforting song. I especially love to sing along with Selah's version. The words remind me that no matter how difficult things may be in my life, or in the life of someone I love, God is right there with us and knows what is best for us. The second and third verses are not song as often as the first, but the words are just as important. Singing makes me happy and this song only increases that joy.
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my
heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My
constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches
me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His
eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on
His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but
one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches
me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to
sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He
sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye
is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Now I'm off to enjoy this cold, rainy, regular school day.
You sound like Nathan and I. We communicate very well in the car. Way back when we were trying to pick a name for our firstborn we were traveling. We both liked the name Derek. So as we rode down the road we would come up with names. One of them I remember was Derek "Queen". Of course that would have never happened. Derek is carrying on my mother's maiden name. She was an only child. Derek Thornton Nease. He was my only son that got to spend time with my mother's mother. I believe he is proud to wear her name.
