We are less than 4 days to getting up early and going back to school. The girls got "back to school" hair cuts today-nothing major, just a good trim. My hairdresser did it and since their hair was already clean, she used a flatiron to get their hair really straight and then trimmed it. I had never seen their hair THAT straight before. It looked pretty.
Tonight is Meet the Teacher Night at Gracie's school. We are both excited about that! Yesterday, I was so blessed. I was able to have a meeting with the counselor, principal and ALL of Ellie's teachers for this year at the Jr. High. And her 3 teachers from last year attended the meeting as well. The meeting was set up by the counselor and I'm so thankful for that. It was a huge relief to me to help them to understand Ellie and her selective mutism. Last years' teachers also gave the new teachers some great advice. This is my specific prayer request for her-that the anxiety becomes less and less a part of her and more and more people are able to know the "real" Ellie by her speaking to more and more people-children and adults. As for Gracie, I pray that she has a good teacher who is understanding, organized and makes learning fun, and that Gracie is able to develop a special friendship this year. She seems to get short changed in that area often and I'm not exactly sure why. She desperately wants a close friend and I hope 3rd grade is the year for her. The girls have also decided to ride the bus in the mornings. I found out that Ellie will arrive at school 45 minutes before the bell to go to class rings. That's a long time, so we'll see how it goes for the first week or so, and then go back to me giving them a ride if we need to. That is one of the few times she'll have to just be social with her friends this year, so she may want to be there. There is no recess in Jr. High!
I also attended a meeting last night for Childrens Sunday School Leaders at church. I'm going to start helping with the childrens' music and worship time. I have a feeling it will be challenging and rewarding. And it will probably lead to some good stories to write about here.
If you are in the mood to see something so cute you will laugh out loud, go check out today's post from Perri's.
