I was wrong when I posted yesterday, my Mammogram isn't until tomorrow. I knew that, and I'm not sure why I posted it that way. TODAY was Ellie's first appt with the orthodontist. Despite her not always doing well in new settings, she did pretty good until it was time to make the molds of the impressions of her teeth. Her tiny mouth and the mouthpiece needed for the top teeth didn't really go together. She felt like she was going to choke or gag for most of the 20 seconds and did not enjoy her first trip there because of that. Unfortunately, she has to get ANOTHER ONE in Sept. because she needs to wear a spreader on the top of her mouth-to help with the tiny mouth. She is dreading it already and has been in a not so good mood since the appointment today. I feel so bad for her, but keep reminding her she's not the only kid who will go through this. The good news is-which really surprised me- she doesn't need any teeth pulled and should only have to wear braces for 18-20 months! I had mine for 3 years, so she was happy to hear her time would be much shorter.
My own two wore braces from 2nd grade through high school. My grandson only had his about 15 months and his teeth are beautiful. The molds aren't easy, but the end result will be worth it!!

My son's been wearing the "functional appliance" (sounds like the spreader thing you mention) for 8 months, and the moulds were not fun...he kind of gagged, too. He has his next appointment this week and may be moving onto the braces soon...my daughter will be checked out as well to see when she'll need to begin the saga... Yay for your good test results.
